Back To Reality

It’s back to reality!  The husband and I had a great early anniversary weekend- thanks for the well wishes!  We packed in a lot of relaxing, eating and  exercise in our day and a half away, so I’ll get right to it!

Saturday

I started off the morning with a healthy and hearty breakfast.  I decided to try oats again (usually not my favorite) and made some pumpkin oats.  For this mix, I used rolled oats, skim milk, water, pumpkin, cinnamon and topped it with chopped walnuts and a tablespoon of PB & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter

Sadly, I didn’t love this, but it was super filling and held me over until lunch.

We got a later start than originally planned and once on the road, the husband was getting hungry.  He wrangled me into stopping at a well known Philadelphia sports bar called Chickie’s and Pete’s

I decided on a Roast Pork sandwich…

IMG_0895

and you can’t visit this place without getting some Crab Fries which are INSANELY good!  I was only going to have a few.  I told myself that I would stop eating them when they stopped tasting good, but bite after bite, they NEVER stopped tasting good!  The husband and I finished these yummy fries right down to the end…

IMG_0896

Before leaving, I had to get a picture of the bathroom.  Aren’t those sinks crazy??  They are giant stockpots!

IMG_0899

We made another pit stop ,during our drive, to a quaint town called Smithville,  that we visit often when at the shore in the summer.  It’s usually a quiet little place, but there was an Irish Festival going on and it was jam-packed.  We walked around for a bit, got a latte and struck a pose by the pond before leaving…

IMG_0902

We continued on to our final destination – the shore!  It was so nice to be back.  Seems like summer was a lifetime ago already, so it was great to visit again!  We quickly changed and grabbed our bikes for a lovely sunset ride…

IMG_0903

Some casino views of Atlantic City…

IMG_0906

After the ride, we spruced up and headed out for dinner at a fantastic Japanese restaurant called Izakaya in the Borgata Hotel and Casino

IMG_0907

IMG_0921

I started off with a pear cocktail made with vodka, reisling and sake…

IMG_0910

It was so good, but boy, I was really feeling it  and got a little giddy about half way through!  The husband thought it was so funny!  I don’t drink much, so I guess I’m a lightweight!

IMG_0918

We ordered some delicious food and enjoyed every bite…

Crispy Calamari Salad…

IMG_0914

Scallops with crispy proscuitto…

IMG_0916

Kobe beef fried rice with chilies, tomatoes and cilantro…

IMG_0911

Crispy lobster roll ( I die- so good!), king crab california roll and spicy tuna roll…

IMG_0915

We were pretty stuffed after this amazing meal!  It was a lovely anniversary dinner to celebrate our 14 years of marriage…

IMG_0919

After being prompted by some of the tiles in the elevator of the casino, we decided to try our luck at a slot machine…

IMG_0923

In Italian…

IMG_0922

Twenty dollars and 45 seconds later, we decided to call it quits!  LOL!  Hate wasting money like that!

Sunday

Despite our late night, we were up and out early!  We went for an hour long walk with the dog (yes, we left the daughters, but brought the dog!), then hopped on bikes and headed to the local bagel shop for breakfast.  I ordered  3 egg whites and cheese on a multigrain bagel.  It hit the spot!

IMG_0925

Then we were off for an hour long bike ride around town.  It was an absolutely gorgeous morning…

IMG_0926

After our ride, we packed up and headed to the beach.  We were so excited to be able to sit on chairs and read!  Not something that happens when the daughters are with us in the summer!

IMG_0933

The weather was spectacular!  It was nice to get a little taste of summer…

We brought some fruit to nosh on while soaking up the sun…

IMG_0934

Later in the afternoon, we reluctantly left the beach and headed back to the house to pack up.  Before we left the shore, I needed to make a stop at my favorite gelato place.  It’s a new place that opened this summer and I was so happy to see they hadn’t closed for the season!  I had been dreaming of this gelato since my first taste of it this summer!  I got a small cup of Chocolate Raspberry Brownie (my all time fave!) and Chocolate Hazelnut…

IMG_0935

Happy, happy, happy!!!  But, sad that it’ll have to last me until next year :(

We decided to make one more trip back to the Borgata for a quick dinner in their food court.  The husband opted for FATBURGER and since I ate dessert before dinner, I decided on a salad from a fun place called Lettuce Head!  I got the Cobb-zilla…

IMG_0936

It was humongous!  I barely made a dent in it, so I have lots for leftovers…

IMG_0937

We picked up the daughters and finally got home, sweet, home:)Thanks Mom and Dad for giving us the opportunity to use your awesome house and for taking such good care of the daughters!

Hope you all had a great weekend!  Looking forward to catching up on some blog reading today!  See you tomorrow!

Marisa, I AM SO JEALOUS! What a wonderful trip you had! Some time, maybe we can meet up at the shore. Smithville, even more jealous. I have an aunt who lives there. I can't believe they had an Irish Festival! I would have loved to go to that. I'm JUST A WEE BIT IRISH!
And the fries look awesome. Happy Belated Anniversary!
