Candy Corn On The Brain

Okay, I’ll try to keep you awake with my dazzling personality, but food-wise, you may be bored to tears!  I’m still trying to get my creativity act together for some exciting meals.  Thanks for all your comments about meal planning!  Nice to see that many of you do consider planning ahead essential and an important tool in staying on the healthy eating road.

Here’s my “semi-planned” day…

I knew I had a full morning of errands, so I made sure to fuel up properly before hitting the gym.  I have been craving carbs like a mother the past few days, so I toasted up a whole wheat cinnamon raisin english muffin and topped it with PB & Co. Cinnamon Raisin Swirl Peanut Butter.  Oh my greatness…

Then, I was off to the gym with a vengeance.  Gotta burn off those freakin’  full of sugar- made by the devil-have to keep eating til the whole dish is practically gone- tempted to buy more to fill the bowl- CANDY CORN.  I hit up The Arc Trainer for 30 minutes of hill intervals with alternating incline and resistance which was, dare I say, kinda fun?  I moved on to some arm and ab work on the weight machines for another 25 minutes.  I worked them pretty well;  my arms were all wobbly when I was done!  Be gone, CANDY CORN!!!

I spent the rest of the morning in chicken-with –head- cut –off mode.  I got in some grocery shopping, too, where I picked up a variety of meats and other things that I have no idea what I am going to do with whatsoever.  Hey, but at least I have some stuff to start with!!!  Is it possible that CANDY CORN can damage your brain somehow that you can’t think properly or concentrate?  Like it has some mind numbing properties in it that render you brainless after eating it?  No?  Okay, just checking.  Then, it’s gotta be the kids.  Always their fault ;)  I digress…

I came home with my random bags of groceries and unloaded, then looked around for an interesting lunch.  Uh………….Or as my Dad would say, “BOH”, which is his Italian version of  “uh”.  I finally decided on a can of Trader Joe’s Organic Lentil Soup.  Pay close attention.  This is a very difficult recipe…

  • take can out of kitchen cabinet (careful!  It’s a bit heavy and if you accidentally drop it on your foot, it’s a very bad thing.  Trust me.  I know.)
  • using a non-rusted can opener, open can.  Again, carefully.  You can cut yourself on the sharp edges of the can top.  Trust me.  I know.
  • pour contents of can into a saucepan (if you’re feeling fancy) or just stick it in a bowl and nuke away.
  • eat and enjoy.  But, don’t overheat it and dive in out of starvation because you can burn the bejesus out of your tongue.  Trust me.  Yeah, I know.

The end result is this fabulous bowl of soup…

Served with a handful of nice cool grapes to put out the fire that you may have set in your mouth if you weren’t careful…

During the homework tackling frenzy, I munched on a good handful of mixed nuts…

IMG_0817

and a few more cashew that I fished out of the container.  They’re my fave :)

I had some ground beef defrosting and planned on making Barbeque Meatloaf for dinner.  Yay for a plan!  I mixed 96% lean ground beef with an egg, some bread crumbs and 1/4 c. barbeque sauce.  I formed it into a loaf, topped it with another 2 tbsp. of barbeque sauce and baked at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.  I served it with a side of Green Giant Immune Blend Veggies mixed with some corn and a side of whole wheat orzo…

The husband and one daughter loved it and declared it the best dinner ever.  Hmmmm….they must want something…

I won’t get into the histrionics that ensued with the other daughter who shall remain little daughter nameless little daughter.  Suffice it to say, meatloaf is not her favorite.

I ended the night with a few more handfuls of crack candy corn.  Yes, yes I did.  I did not learn my crack lesson and ventured over to the dark side again.  Did you know that there is no such thing as CANDY CORN ANONYMOUS?  Seriously, I looked and looked, but there is no support group for this addiction.  How can this be??  Very sad.  Many people could benefit from this, I think :)

Have a great, candy corn-less, day!!

ONE GOOD THING:  The candy corn is almost gone ;P

Question of the Day:  What is the one food you can’t have in the house/office because it’s too tempting?

CANDY CORN! Well no, specifically, the candy corn pumpkins. Brach's. Evil things. I eat them til I'm ill. Then I eat some more. So I TOTALLY feel you pain!

This time of year, I absolutely can NOT have KitKats in the house. Guess what? There's only 5 more mini KitKats left in the big bag Hubman bought. Oy!

I've got a kid that refuses to eat when I serve meatloaf for dinner. I mean, he'll literally lock his mouth shut. Stubborn much? hehehe

I had a battle with Candy Corn last week myself !!!!! Why do I love those disgusting things so much !!!!??????? I had to stop filling my cute little halloween bowl ! :( Too much temptation for this girl !

That lentil soup looks REALLY good. And I had to laugh about the candy corn. I was in the store the other day with my husband(whom doesn't like candy corn) and I was SOOOO tempted to grab the tub of candy corn but thankfully it was $5 and I didn't think it was worth that price. lol.

I wouldnt be able to keep my hand out of the candy corn either...strange to me because Id rarely have a sweet tooth. Some foods just CAN NOT enter my house! Cheez-its are on the TOP of that list. They are my CRACK! lol

Potato chips. Hands down. They are from the devil.

Hmmm... what can I NOT have in the house... well I hate candy corn, so it's not that! LOL!!! Honestly I can't think of anything right now but there must be something! lol!! I'm gonna say ordered in pizza... lol! My son ordered pizza last night and of course I had 2 pcs before going to bed... felt like crap all night.. d'uh!! lol! Why would I eat something that heavy before going to bed!?!? Live and learn right? ;)

PS - Got myself a new blog, hope you'll check it out and update your blogroll if you like! :) Hugs!

Be brave in your struggle with the sugary beast. Console yourself that you have not sunk to the level where you mix a handful of jelly beans and a handful of candy corn and try to argue that it is corn and beans nd therefor good !

I don't really have any food triggers because any that were now give me horrible heartburn. In the past it was Hostess Suzi Q's, Snickers and Almond Joy bars. These days simply sniffing the wrapper from any of those brings on serious painful heartburn, so I don't even consider them.

A bag of chocolate chips (or I guess Chocolate in general)...I will grab "only a handful" here and there and the next thing I know, it's gone!
Love your blog!!!

Any type of homemade chocolate cake/cookies/brownies. Yes, I made them myself. Yes, I know what's in them and yes, I also make modifications to the recipe to make it healthy BUT that does not give me permission to eat the whole pan!!

Trust me, I know. :)

Air Heads. You know those candies where they basically color pure sugar and dry it out until it's a leather consistency? Those cannot be around or I will eat them all!!

Quick question - I see you eat breakfast BEFORE you head to the gym. How long do you wait to work out after eating?

Oreo's are my absolute downfall!! But, anything chocolate really shouldn't be in the house. I'm trying to think of what to make for dinner so I'm going to try your meatloaf. Thanks!

I don't buy potato chips. Hubby bought a bag over the weekend because he played some poker with some friends. I am so proud of myself for not even having one. But I knew that if I had one, it would be all lost... They were salt & vinegar, and I love salt & vinegar. Hubby is evil...

Mmmm, now candy corn is on my mind! Thankfull I don't LOVE it, so it's not a big problem for me. But I do have a little bit every halloween. :)

Can't have any kind of chocolate in the house. Come to think of it, can't have anything that has chocolate in it. Chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate ice cream, the list goes on and on.

This is going to sound SO crazy but I have a hard time keeping almonds in the house! I have chocolate and ice cream that I could go WEEKS without touching. But almonds? I could eat the whole tin and I'm pretttty sure at that point they're no longer considered a healthy snack!

I love candy corn!!

I cannot have mini reeses pb cups in the house! They are my nemesis LOL

An open box of cereal is my downfall. If it is unopened then it is fine. I have a problem with having to finish a box of open cereal off.

any baked goods, ice cream or sugary cereal are my worst enemies in the house.

I am another not-a-fan of candy corn. Never realized there were so many lovers out there!

No candy corn here. Hershey's minatures though? That's a different story.

I loved your description of the proper way to handle the can of soup. Very detailed and funny!
