Coffee + Carb Loading

I’m in love again.  With coffee.  I know this is a volatile relationship.  I fall hard, then I get burned.  Literally.  My throat and my stomach hate me when I get back together with coffee.

So far, things have been going well.  We’re getting along famously.  But I know, there may come a time when we have to call it quits again.  For now, we meet for breakfast every morning…

with another old love…

Mock Egg McMuffins + coffee = a happy meal :)

I spent most of the morning cleaning out my really messy closet then headed out for grocery shopping.  Why does that take forever?  Hmm…could be the fact that I still go down every aisle even when I only need a few things!  I’ll never learn…

But, I did pick up some Ezekiel Hot Dog Buns for something new!  I put one to work with an Applegate Farms Organic Uncured Beef Hot Dog as soon as I got home, along with a sweet Honeycrisp apple….

When the daughters came home from school, I went right to the pantry for a snack.  I’m convinced it’s a Pavlovian response.  Good thing I walk down every aisle of the grocery store or else I would have missed out on these babies for a snack…

Paul and Nell said that I could have 20.   I chomped on about half, then decided I better put it in a bowl before Paul and Nell gave me the raised eyebrow.   I added a cheese stick …because…

To round out this carb-a-rific day, I split some Annie’s Shells and Cheddar with the daughters.  The husband was working and it was just us girls with our mac and cheese.  I doctored mine up with the leftover butternut squash and broccoli in the fridge and about 1/4 c. of black beans for a teensy bit of protein…

I know it does not look that fab, but it was really tasty and filling!  I sure did it up with the carbs today.  I was craving them all day.  Must be my body needing to carb-load for my big 3 mile run tomorrow – LOL!!!  This is my running training week and my body knows!  That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it ;P

I ended the night with a cup of STASH

This STASH stinks:(

ONE GOOD THING :  Coffee doesn’t :D

Have a great day, everyone!!

I JUST bought a box of that Stash tea...I'm bummed to hear that you don't like it. I haven't tried it yet!

Some days I'm like that too, craving carbs. My biggest problem with that is I don't run, so I really try to balance things out. Good luck with your run tomorrow!

I can sympatize with coffee ! It always caused me problems till I started making it in a french press pot. Turns out the problem was not the coffee, but mold building up in the rubber hose between the resivoir and heating element. Minor amount but made me very sick.

And i shop the same way. One thing, it is the only way to find new finds, and second I usually forget to write something on the list and seeing it on the shelf jogs my brain.

Sorry you did not like the tea- it sounds like it would be great !

How can Stash get it SO right with Vanilla Nut Creme and SO wrong with other flavours? It's a mystery.

Good luck with your 3 miler. You'll do great!

Carbs are my secret crush...I love them! shhhhhh :)

Your dinner looks good! Great job bulking it up with beans and veggies! :)

I have not tried that flavor of Stash tea...guess I will skip it! Creme carmel decaf is tasty from them. I also like the chai tea too! :)

:) Coffee=happiness

I find it interesting that so many ladies are having to kick their coffee in order to be well. I take mine for...er... medicinal purposes. It helps to keep my digestive tract happy, and that makes me happy.

Those pretzels are good aren't they? Even better dipped in cream cheese or Tofutti.

I just fell in love with a new flavor of tea, Yogi Green Tea Kombucha. Wow. It sounds horrible but tastes so fruity and refreshing. I'm a bit of a tea fanatic.

I haven't tried anything Ezekiel yet, mainly because of the cost, but those hot dog buns look really good. They look soft and bouncy. Okay, okay, I never thought I'd ever hear myself say that, but seriously, is the Ezekiel products that good? I may have to try.

(Yes, I just wrote a whole comment on hot dog buns....)

Okay, and another thing....after reading my comment after it posted, I realize how bad it sounds to tell you that the buns look soft and bouncy. Not the sort of comment you want on a "weight loss/healthy/exercise" blog! I should have said the buns look trim and lean and OH, forget it! :-)

Coffee and I have the same relationship! It always starts out so casual, and before I know it-I'm loading up on it 3 times a day!
Those Spelt pretzels look yummy. Have a fun run!

Good for you in adding all those veggies to the mac and cheese. Really bulked them up.

This fall weather is just perfect for a morning trist with coffee. Something wonderful about holding a nice warm cup of Jo in your hands.

Great blog

Marisa, I love that you make traditional comfort food healthy. This post is such a perfect example...an egg mcmuffin, hot dog, and mac and cheese. You made all of them diet-friendly. So few bloggers can do that! I love it!

Thanks for your comments, everyone!

Terri - LOL@ soft and bouncy! I love soft and bouncy bread!!!Unfortunately, I wouldn't describe Ezekiel products that way - they are definitely a more hearty type of bread with a lot of chew to it. I think that's what makes them so satisfying - they take a while to eat! They are pricey, but sometimes I get them on sale at my local Giant!
