Pilates, Parks + Patience

Thank you all for your condolences regarding my breakup :) It's still a little rough going, but physically, I felt better today! You all had some great ideas for some coffee alternatives, too; I will definitely be checking them out!

The hips were still sore today and moving into feeling stiff, too. I thought it best to not do any cardio again and now, don't you know , I am craving running??!! But, my hips will not be happy if I pursue that, so I decided to try something new - Pilates. I bought a cheap-o DVD at Five Below that is a one hour basic Pilates workout. I planned on doing the whole hour, but needed to get in some breakfast first. I went with a quick bowl of cereal. In the mix...

I stared longingly at the coffee pot and out of habit almost started brewing! I guess I have to put it away...
Instead, I micro-brewed some tea. I went with a China Oolong this morning. It made me oo-long for some coffee...
The tea bag tag had positive sayings on it. Mine said this...

Yeah, I 'd like to reward myself with a cup of coffee! *sigh* But, I went on to reward myself with a Pilates session. I have to say, despite the annoying voice of the instructor and the waif-like "level 1" demonstrator in the background, I REALLY liked it! It is hard, but not so hard that you want to quit. My muscles were shaking, but heck, you get to lie down for most of it, so I'm game! I made it through 45 minutes before I had to stop and tend to the daughters. I was pretty wobbly in the legs, so it must have done something! I'll definitely try this again.
Lunchtime rolled around before I knew it. I was in the mood for my good old 'wrap and chip' combo. I made a Cali Veggie Wrap using a high fiber tortilla, Dr. Praeger's California Veggie Burger, Laughing Cow Light Cheese and lettuce. Trader Joe's Sour Cream and Onion Rice Chips and carrots were perfect sides...

After lunch, the daughters and I (and dog) went to the park for the afternoon. We did a little walking, playing and hanging on a blanket reading books. It was a great afternoon.
We got home just in time to get dinner started. As I was prepping some mozzarella cheese for the entree, I sliced and snacked...

I had to hurry up and put it away before I snacked away the whole block of cheese! How's that for being intuitive?! I intuitively knew I would eat the whole thing -lol!! Not funny, but I'm trying to make myself feel better ;P
Dinner was Grilled Chicken Antipasto along with salad and grilled bread...

I grilled thin-sliced chicken breasts then topped them with a mixture of tomatoes, diced mozzarella, a few Kalamata olives, 3 artichoke hearts (chopped), fresh basil, garlic and a tsp. evoo...

While cleaning the dishes, I fished for a dessert...

So, I'm feeling a little anxious about intuitive eating. I think I'm having a low point where I'm not sure if I'm doing the right thing. I was feeling really strong last week, but this week has been up and down so far. I'm finding that this takes lots of practice. Lots and lots. I know it's going to take a long time to undo the dieting damage. I think it's okay to take a while, but I also think I have to be okay with maybe not losing weight while this changeover is occurring. And I'm not sure if I'm okay with that...
Patience. It's not a virtue that comes easily for me. But, to feel like I've given this the "old college try", I'll hang in there a while longer and do a progress report mid-Sept. to see where I'm at.
Have a great night, everyone!
Before I go... a Question of the Day... Have you ever tried Pilates?

I've tried a pilates video. It's been a long time, but I remember liking it. I think I'm going to fish it out of the box of dvd's and try it again.

Pilates is wonderful for your core. Your abs will feel it tomorrow! I love the flexibility and strength that comes from Pilates.

I do yoga, but pilates is something I want to pick up. I want me some GlidingCalm abs.

I ordered the Windsor Pilates DVD's back in the day and only used them a few times. If you have ever been up late, you have probably seen the info-mercial! Although, I did enjoy them.

No, I've never tried Pilates.

Have you ever tried loose leaf tea? I saw you were drinking tea instead of coffee. I have the cutest one cup loose leaf tea brewer. It makes drinking tea fun in my fancy cup with my pinky sticking out.

I'm glad I read your post today beacause I am feeling the same way about undoing the dieting damage. I am so hard on my self and I also have an all or nothing attitude sometimes when as a try to change my lifestyle. An all or nothing attitude is not the way to go with this healthy life style change thing. As always your food looked superb.

Have you tired going to the chiropractor for an adjustment? It might help your hip/running issue. It worked wonders for me and my hip/knee pain from running.

I tried pilates but didn't like it. I much prefer yoga.

I absolutely LOVE Pilates, especially when I took it at a studio with some fabulous instructors. But these days, I'm way poor and have settled for doing it via a great book and video. :)

Never tried pilates of any form. It never really appealed to me. Good for you on giving up coffee, I am sipping mine whilst reading your blog feeling very guilty! That sounds like a yummy afternoon to have with your daughters.

I have done Pilates and love it, but for some reason I keep falling back on walking ans my exercise of choice. I think because I can do it anytime, anywhere and while i am doing anything else keeps me comming back to walking. I lost 110 pouns doing walking as my only exercise, so I think it is a mental thing that keeps me going back and giving up all other things.

I still have my fingers crossed for you that this intuitive eating will get easier. It does take time for our heads to wrap around changes. Good luck!

If I've ever tried Pilates, I don't remember it. Would like to try it out though. Might need to find a cheapo dvd, huh? :)

Thank you so much for your thoughts on intuitive eating! I think youre right, probably something best saved for the end of weight loss or maintenance! I really need to have a healthier relationship with food before I can start that journey!

I have never tried pilates! I think it's awesome that youre taking a swing at it. I might be the least flexible person alive. I gave yoga a shot a few times, but I'm a mess when I do it ha!

I do Pilates, I teach Pilates, and it really does work! I refuse to give up the coffee, though. Just not happening!

i think at first, intuitive eating is difficult because you are actually THINKING about when to eat, and what to eat, and if you are hungry or not, etc. when you have meals all planned out or charted by points, this level of thinking doesn't come into play. eventually though, the intuitive eating will become thought-free, and you will just eat when you are hungry, and refrain when you are not. i am trying not to think so much about every bite and it's definitely hard at first!!

I love Pilates. Did it a few years back about 4 times a week (including a class on the Reformer machine once a week) and it totally changed my body. I was lean, my stomach was flat, and I had absolutely no back pain anymore! Enjoy it!

Also, I feel your pain with the coffee. I stopped drinking it a few weeks back, and it gets easier. Though, thinking about it now is making me crave it a bit!

What a wonderful day - and kudos for putting the cheese away, that's my weakness!

I did pilates at a gym I belonged to and loved it, but haven't done an at home tape in a long time - its supposed to be great for toning!

oh noo sorry to hear that your breakup with coffee has been difficult. I heart tea, but when i need a good kick in the ass in the morning, coffee does the trick. Try sweetening your mate with some truvia and cinnamon! You'll love it...soon enough. hahahah

I don't do pilates...unfortunately. I've tried it though! Classes are just not as common as yoga classes AND they're expensive. *sigh*

yes i did private pilates sessions for 3 months while prepping for a bathing suit role that wound up getting cut from the movie. grrrr. i liked it, but i find i get the same results from what i'm doing now - eating intuitively and doing a little bit of exercise every day.

oolong tea is suppose to be good for the metabolism. I bought a pilates dvd and while I really liked it, it was a challenge. slow controlled movements. I'd do 90minutes of hot yoga over that any day. lol good for you though.
and ohhhh how dare you post pics of chocolate covered pretzels. almond bark pretzels are my specialty at christmas. only 6 months away. hehe.

I have a Pilates DVD I did once and I know I did it wrong - my back was killing me. I used to like doing yoga class at the gym. I've never had a cup of coffee! But I looove tea. At TJ's they have Oregon Chai (i think that's the name) it's a liquid in a box and you add half that and half milk (or almond breeze) and it's delicious! maybe you can try that?

Andrea@WellnessNotes said...

I used to take a Pilates classes years ago, but then we moved. I miss it... I still do quite a few Pilates moves on my own though...

How do you like the DVD?

I started pilates sessions in July and absolutely love it! It amazes me how much of a sweat you can work up doing such low impact exercises. I have been heavy my entire life and cannot believe that finally at the age of 40,I'm excited about exercise.

Love your blog; keep up the great work.
